Sum It Up Sunday: ENMN Conference 2014

Sharing is caring!

This is pretty much the Sum It Up Sunday post I planned to write, you know, on Sunday.  And here we are on Tuesday.  Late on Tuesday.  Yeah… I know.  You’re used to this from me, no?

On Sunday I was hanging with some new friends.

I never knew I’d have so much fun singing and dancing to a song about going potty.
Sean Astin is one of my favorite actors ever.  And an amazing human being.

Oh, haaayyyyy Genevieve Goings of Choo Choo Soul and Sean Astin of everything awesome in my childhood.  I also had the fabulous opportunity to meet and hug Keith Tisdale, @tizthetime, but somehow I lost those pictures.  #BloggerFail.  He was one of my favorite people to meet this weekend and is crowdsource funding his new project (Tiz the Time The Relentless one man show and documentary).

Okay, yeah, back up a bit.  This weekend I had the pleasure to attend the first (and will not be the last!) Entertainment New Media Network conference in Anaheim.  #ENMNCon14 is the hashtag used on Twitter and Instagram; be sure to check it out because we had TOO much fun for a learning opportunity.  I’ll do a full write up trying to encompass the things I learned about the Travel and Entertainment industry once things settle down a bit.

At the conference we previewed Dallas, Private Lives of Nashville Wives, and the Mom’s Night Out Movie.  Y’all- two huge thumbs up for all three!  Particularly, if you are a mom or a mommy blogger, or just a woman overwhelmed with life:  please go see the Mom’s Night Out Movie on May 9th.

This movie had it all.  About 10 minutes into the movie I kept sneaking peeks over my shoulder at the two stars and screenwriter of the show who were watching with us (not to name drop, but *ahem* Sarah Drew from Grey’s Anatomy, screenwriter Andrea Nasfell, and Actor/Producer Kevin Downes.)

I loved them.  I couldn’t believe how completely they had nailed my life, but in a much funnier and classier way than I ever would have written this.  I wanted to get up and hug them all for making such a PERFECT movie:  as a mom, as a writer, as a blogger, as a wife, as a Christian.  And I also wondered if they had a hidden camera in my house, because I swear Patricia Heaton follows my life and uses it in her craft.  (Hello y’all, I AM Frankie Heck from The Middle.)

I did get my chance after the movie to hug, thank and (God love them all) take selfies.

We also had amazing speakers and sessions.  I was in the same room with @stop from Twitter.  Not just “hey, that’s his Twitter handle.”  No.  He’s really FROM Twitter- the creative director actually.  Of Twitter.  You guys know how I feel about Twitter, so I was pretty mesmerized by his presentation.

My head is spinning a little bit with new ideas and new plans taking shape sparked by the folks I met at the conference.  I plan to write more in detail for myself on what I learned and saw and shared, and would be happy to post it here on the blog if y’all are interested in reading it.  Don’t worry, I won’t be writing  “How to be a blogger” posts ’cause I’m still trying to figure that part out.  But I’d love to share some of the experiences if you want to read them.

But I have to warn you.

The blog will have a new look, a new name (don’t worry,  Margaritas, Miles & the Mouse will ALWAYS be part of me) and maybe some new focuses.  And of course, Hey Girls will remain.

My parting thoughts from this weekend can be summed up in this tweet.  We took a wrong turn or six and ended up… not where we were supposed to be.

we had a REAL moms night out in a trailer park & spotted #GrumpyCat! @daspilar @iRunDisney @longhorns2 @laderalady pic.twitter.com/Ou2DJHZafI

Above all I learned from a professional standpoint, I’ll remember the belly laughs with the friends I made for years to come.  A song from Girl Scouts comes to mind:
Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver and other gold.
Ladies, you are GOLD.  Can’t wait to see y’all again at the next conference, online, or at the Princess Half, right Jindy?
How was your weekend?  Who would be on your “I’d love to selfie” list?

Love your summary! It was great to "meet" you officially (as in, when we weren't drenched with sweat on mile 5). Wish we could have chatted more. Maybe at the end of August? Trader Sams? ;) Good luck with Princess Half!
