Princess Half Marathon: The Final Countdown

Right before the races I like to make cute count down images and help the hype (like runDisney needs it) and post them every day on Facebook.  It's been too busy around here to do even a simple project like that.  I mean, Facebook allows you to schedule posts in advance.  So this could have been an easy project.

Forget easy.  Let's just get to the point, shall we?  The final countdown for the Princess Half Marathon is here.

Annnndddd.... I'm not ready.  I need another week.  Or 3 if you want me to actually be trained for this event.  Alright- I know- not a popular opinion.  Most of y'all are ready to get your run on and snatch up all the pretty, pretty medals.  I'm with you.  When I take a moment to consider all that will be mine by Sunday, I don't mind hurrying up the week!  You know, these little beauties.

That special little lady in pink and purple will have a place of honor.  She's going to get a tour of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and possibly Jelly Rolls before I bring her back to her new home in Arizona.

Costumes

These are not my best, but not my worst efforts either.  As per my usual costume advice, I like to go against the theme when possible.  I picked some villains for the 5K and the half, and a fun group costume for the 10K.

Since I added the 5K rather last minute, I had to fashion something together.  Shenanigans was poppin' tags, yo.  Goodwill, you complete me.  I went in not sure what on earth I would possible be, but came out with something rather dashing.  I know I look good.  You know I look good.  If I ran the 5K, I'd win every time, so I'll be nice and just walk it so someone else can have a chance to win.  (And yes, I'm already in character for the race as I type this)

No one saves money like Gaston either.  This is hands down the cheapest costume I own.  I had the Mud Pie Sparkle Skirt already and picked up 2 shirts and a mans belt for a grand total of $11.95.  I could have fully committed with an Elvis wig, but that would have put me way over my budget for this costume.  I'll just have to do my best with my own flowing locks.

The 10K costume is sad.  It's sad because what I wanted to pull off and what my time and budget allows me to pull off are two very different things.  I hoped to be the One Man Band Bert from Mary Poppins.  Think about it.  It would have been Awwwweeesooommmeee! (Say it like Barney).

Buuuutttt... as you can imagine, that one was going to take a crap load of Pixie Dust to pull off.  Maybe next year.  I'll put some more thought into it and see what we can do.  In it's place I'll just be a plain ol' Chimney Sweep.

Minus broom because apparently 2 day shipping does not mean what I thought it meant.  Ahem.  I'm running this one with the DisBroads and we picked the #PoppinsPosse as our theme.  There will be a couple of Marys, a few sweeps, and you might even catch a glimpse of some Suffragettes.

And last but not least is the half marathon costume.  I picked the baddest bad guy I knew who has the chutzpah to wear purple.  He owns this look, y'all.  I hope I do him justice.  He's big, he's bad, and he's going to rock the .10 miles through Tomorrow Land.  He's the bad guy my little man Jacob loved to attack at the Space Ranger Spin so I knew I had to wear him at least once.  This one's for you, Super Jake.

What I love about this costume is that I can re-purpose all of it.  Well, the cape is pretty much Zurg specific, but the shirt, skirt, and visor can be reused another time.  DisBroad April is running as my counter part, Buzz Lightyear, and I can't wait to see her costume with mine!

I think I'm ready.  Are you?  I leave tomorrow morning, so I better get packing!

If you are in town on Thursday, don't forget to come by for The Princess Wave to meet me and the DisBroads!  It's happening at the Wave Lounge in the Contemporary Resort 6pm-7:30pm.  They have a menu for food as well as drinks and we'd love to see you!  Don't forget we also have GREAT prize packages to raffle off for those that attend.  You won't want to miss it.

Did you pick a costume for the Princess Half?  Care to share which choice you made and why?

  1. They are all fabulous Patty, but I expected no less from you!! I'm just boring-ole-Cinderella, but thought I should be a proper princess for my first PHM! Next year, watch out, I'm not sure what I will do, but I have a year to plan it! ;)

  5. OMG I love your costumes, especially the Zurg one. And the fact that you have a friend going as Buzz is just perfect!! As for the cape, I bet you could dye it black and use it as a Maleficent cape in the future!

  10. No one wears a skirt like Gaston! Love the costumes! The Barney reference was Legen - wait for it...and I hope you're not lactose intolerant because the second half of that word is - dairy...LEGENDARY! Being legendarier would be for you to get a picture of you with the Gaston statue in front of Gaston's Tavern in the Magic Kingdom with your Gaston costume. Have a great time at WDW! Can't wait to read about it.

  13. Love your Gaston! I'm re-using my Wendy Darling for the 5K, unless I can find a Cinderella tank at the expo...then I'll be Cindy (which is what I want to do, but didn't have time to redo my shirt). For the half, I'm going as Mary Poppins! I considered a Princess, but realized that whole "Practically Perfect in Every Way" thing was just too tempting. :)
